The mining and resources sector looks set to play its part in positioning Western Australia for a prosperous future. Those projects which are either committed or under construction total a value of $57 billion, and a further $87 billion are under consideration. Meanwhile, industry investment in minerals exploration in WA remains at record highs.

However, significant challenges stand in the way of our industry fully realising its potential for Western Australia. Today’s global community is intensely competitive with respect to investment capital, and questions remain around the security of supply chains and labour market flows with a backdrop of rising geopolitical tensions. At home, the increasing regulatory burden and costs applied to project development continues to challenge new and existing operators alike.

This Pre-Budget Submission allows us the opportunity to revisit the conversation about industry’s role in Western Australia, and more specifically, the budget and economy. In this year’s submission we have highlighted the priority recommendations of the mining and resources industry, concerns as well as opportunities to chart a course for the mining and resources sector’s involvement in the future of WA.
