Local government reforms submission to the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries

CME members have long raised concerns about the lack of transparency, accountability, availability of information and rate-setting methodologies in local governments.

Earlier intervention, effective regulation, stronger penalties, improved financial management and reporting will help reduce the likelihood of council dysfunction, costly escalation to authorised inquiries into misconduct and issuing of Show Cause Notices.
