Update from the State Manager – Regional WA

It’s been a busy month since I stepped into the role of State Manager – Regional WA.  In that time I have had the privilege to visit the South West region twice and Kalgoorlie, with Port Hedland being my next stop this week. It’s been fantastic meeting with key local stakeholders to really understand the heart of each regional town and how the resources sector integrates with local communities.

I have been able to attend all three Regional Council meetings in March, which has helped me to get an initial sense of key regional issues and the passion each company has for its workforce and community.  I look forward to further face to face or virtual catch ups with representatives over the next couple of months.

Apart from the Regional Council meetings, the South West Women in Resources Networking event has been a highlight.  Hosted by Albemarle, together with CME, the event provided an opportunity for men and women working in the South West to meet and network, whilst hearing about how the role of women in the sector has changed over the past 30 years.  I’m pleased to see our sector has really made great progress in creating diverse and inclusive workplaces which benefit all.

No doubt the Pilbara Regional Council Sundowner scheduled for 31 March will be another highlight for the month.  It will be a beautiful evening for industry representatives to network with regional stakeholders and discuss matters important to all in the Pilbara and specifically, the Port Hedland region.
