Supporting workforce mobility through national licence recognition

To support national business operations, the Federal Government has committed to establishing a uniform scheme for automatic mutual recognition (AMR) of state and territory-based occupational licences and registrations.

This reform will allow tradespersons and other workers who hold a select occupational licences and registrations in their home state or territory, to be automatically licensed to perform the same work in another state or territory, and enable workers to operate across jurisdictions without the need to pay additional fees or apply for additional licences. Specific beneficiaries include workers living in border regions, those who relocate temporarily for work, fly-in fly-out workers, and people who provide services remotely.

While established by the Federal Government, the AMR scheme will be implemented by states and territories, as outlined in the intergovernmental agreement.
