Pilbara Summit draws big crowd

The 2022 Pilbara Summit was held in Karratha last month with more than 500 delegates in attendance. The conference featured presentations from across industry and other key regional stakeholders. The summit focused on some of the major developments underway, decarbonisation and the importance of collaborating. CME’s Acting CEO Rob Carruthers participated in a panel discussion addressing ‘Managing Growth in the Region.’

The Pilbara Regional Council (PRC) was also held in Karratha and had strong attendance from members who came together to discuss issues impacting the region. Discussion items included anti-theft initiatives, environmental approvals and safe and respectful behaviours. One of the guest presenters was the Department of Communities’ Simone Fountain, who spoke to the expanding Target 120 across the region, an early intervention program to holistically support young people at risk of offending.

The Pilbara Regional Council discussed a range of issues.

Earlier in the month, CME’s North West Regional Officer Megan Brouwer hosted the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade State Director Sally Dawkins on a Seafarers tour of Port Hedland. Accompanying Sally and Megan were Tegan Reid and Sasha Pendal from FMG, and Chantal Cullen from Port Hedland Industries Council. A range of key regional issues were discussed including port infrastructure, industry diversification, future growth, and community initiatives, as well as the benefits of living and working in the North West. CME also held an afternoon tea in Karratha to introduce Sally to our members and key stakeholders.
