New CME Regional Officer starts in the Goldfields

CME is delighted to announce the appointment of Danielle Foster as our new Regional Officer for the Goldfields.

Danielle has recently joined the CME team and will be introducing herself to as many members as possible in the coming weeks. As a long-time Goldfields resident, Danielle is already well-known within the local community and the mining and resources sector.

Danielle brings a great deal of relevant experience to the role, particularly from a communications and marketing perspective. Most recently, she was Head of Regions for leading WA agency Marketforce and prior to that, she headed up the marketing department at the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Danielle is a passionate Goldfielder and is eager to showcase the wonderful opportunities mining brings to the region. We look forward to seeing what her engagement with our members delivers.

Please feel free to reach out to Danielle at d.foster@cmewa.com

April visit to Kalgoorlie-Boulder

A CME contingent comprising Chief Executive Paul Everingham, State Manager – Regional WA Susan Cull and Content Editor Simon White spent several days in the Goldfields in April, engaging with key stakeholders and getting an up-close look at member company operations.

The itinerary included a tour of Aurizon’s Kalgoorlie rail depot, a briefing from the team working on the Fimiston South project at the Super Pit, a visit to Evolution Mining’s Mungari operations, catch-ups with the mayors and CEOs of both the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the Shire of Coolgardie, meetings with the Kalgoorlie Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Regional Development Australia Goldfields-Esperance,  an update from the Gold Stealing Detection Unit, a rundown on the progress being made by the Goldfields Aboriginal Business Chamber and lastly (but definitely not least) a tour of Gold Fields’ underground operations at St Ives. Amidst all that, CME hosted a dinner attended by member company representatives and other local stakeholders at the York Hotel.

For Paul, it was a final opportunity as Chief Executive to visit a region where CME was born in the late 1890s. It was clear from our discussions with such a wide variety of stakeholders that these are very busy times and exciting times in the Goldfields but also ones with some important shared challenges that will need to be tackled collaboratively – notably around skills shortages and Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s incredibly tight housing market.

Susan Cull also travelled to Leonora for the Goldfields Esperance Business Register Procurement Day and Expo, where it was fantastic to see connections made between Goldfields mining companies and local businesses.

Celebrations from the Evolution Mungari Team.

SMERC brings autumn action to Kalgoorlie-Boulder

The annual Surface Mine Emergency Response Competition (SMERC) was held on April 30 and May 1, with seven teams from the Goldfields putting their skills to the test at the Hannans North Tourist Mine.

The team from Evolution Mining Mungari Operations emerged as the overall winner, led by Savanah Tiller who was named as best captain.

CME is grateful for all the operations and teams which supported and competed in the event:

  • Evolution Mungari
  • Northern Star KCGM
  • Gold Fields Combined
  • BHP Nickel West Combined
  • St Barbara/Jaguar Mutual Aid
  • Northern Star Kalgoorlie Operations
  • AngloGold Ashanti Tropicana.

CME is also appreciative of the many stakeholders and sponsors who made the event possible, including the Mine Rescue Committee (chaired by Alex Fincher), host mining operation Northern Star and Red Edge Events.

The presentation dinner following the two days of competition was particularly well-attended and enjoyed by all involved.
