Mines rescue comp to continue long tradition

In 1911, mines rescue and safety would have looked a lot different from what it does today. Incredibly, this is how long underground mine rescue competitions have been held in the Goldfields. This long-standing tradition steeped in history displays the skills shown by our industry in arguably the most important area of mining: safety.

No amount of training can compare to the pressure of a real-life emergency situation. Through simulated emergencies, the ability of response teams is tested in a safe environment that is a proven and invaluable means of preparation. The 2022 Underground Mine Emergency Response Competition is gearing up to showcase the phenomenal skills possessed by teams across the Goldfields, generously hosted by FMR Investments’ Gordon Sirdar Gold Mine operation, from 19-20 November.

CME congratulates ZiJin, which will celebrate its 10-year anniversary of the acquisition of Norton Gold’s operations, including the Paddington gold mine in Kalgoorlie.

CME Regional Officer Danielle Foster was honoured to join the judging panel of the 2022 Goldfields Business Awards. Judging the categories of Mining Services, Professional Executive and Manager of the Year, the quality of staff showcased was heartening to see. Best of luck to all the nominees for the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry-hosted awards night, being held on 10 September.

We are very pleased to have Rebecca Tomkinson on board as our new CEO and know that she is immensely looking forward to meeting our regional members. Rebecca will be attending the St Barbara’s Miners Memorial Service on 1 December and we invite members to attend a sundowner following the memorial at the WA Museum.
