Exciting times ahead for the Northern Goldfields

CME’s Regional Manager – Goldfields, Ryan O’Hanlon, had the privilege recently of visiting Laverton and Leonora shires and Northern GoIdfields member company mine sites, including Gold Fields Australia’s Granny Smith and Agnew Operations, AngloGold Ashanti’s Sunrise Dam Operations, Glencore Minara Resources’ Murrin Murrin Operations and Dacian Gold’s Mt Morgans Operations.

With the current high prices of gold and nickel, these sites are currently focused on maintaining high production levels in very challenging times. While every mine is unique, they are all constantly challenged with similar key issues like skills shortages, energy and water supply and remoteness – yet each site is pushing ahead with its plans for growth and green energy. With the assistance of the resources industry, the Northern Goldfields is a flourishing region.

Ryan also took the opportunity to meet with staff and councillors from the Shire of Laverton and Leonora. Both shires currently have exciting plans for the future and are working closely with the local mines.

Ryan is very grateful to all site general managers and their senior leadership teams, and also shire councillors for accommodating him on this trip and taking the time to meet and discuss some key issues. There certainly are exciting times ahead for the Northern Goldfields.

SEGRA coming to Kalgoorlie-Boulder

Australia’s leading conference on regional issues – Sustainable Economic Growth for Regional Australia (SEGRA) – is set to be held in Kalgoorlie-Boulder from November 16 to 18. This year’s conference is jam -packed with expert presenters and industry tours and will focus on assisting regional, rural and remote Australia to source and identify the techniques, skills and issues they need to address to achieve successful economic growth and development.

CME looks forward to seeing member companies there.

G E Business Register

Meanwhile, the G E Business Register continues to grow and now has more than 450 businesses registered. The platform allows local businesses the opportunity to improve their visibility to suppliers and purchasers and to register as a supplier to the mining industry, and showcase their skills and capabilities to mining companies.

The Kalgoorlie Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KBCCI) is the dedicated resource looking after the register and will help Goldfields businesses sign up and answer any of their questions.  Please contact Sharon Henderson at the KBCCI at hello@gebusinessregister.com.au if you have any queries.
