CME reps needed for Standards committees

Standards Australia is an independent organisation with responsibility to develop new and update existing Australian Standards, alongside participating in Australia’s development and adoption of International Standards. To inform this process, Standards Australia convene Technical Committees comprised of key stakeholders and industry representatives.

CME currently have vacant member positions on the following two Standards Australia Technical Committees:

  • Chain of Custody – tasked to develop, revise or amend Australian Standards related to Chain of custody systems including certification schemes (ISO/TC 308). The Chain of Custody standard development is expected to impact Australian supply chains within the mining and precious metals, industrial chemicals, and oil and gas sectors.
  • Copper, Lead, Zinc, Nickel Ores and Concentrates – tasked to develop, revise or amend Australian Standards related to Copper, Lead, Zinc and Nickel Ores and Concentrates including sampling, chemical analysis and physical testing (ISO/TC 183).

CME is seeking expressions of interest from members with relevant technical experience to fill either vacancy. Interest is being sought from members who are able to allocate time to participate and attend each meeting, as well as report back on relevant meeting outcomes to CME. Standards Australia has indicated a preference for meetings to be held in-person at various locations around Australia, however, recognise this is not always practical and teleconference facilities can be made available.

Nominations to CME for the Chain of Custody Technical Committee will close Tuesday June 14.

Nominations to CME for the Copper, Lead, Zinc, Nickel Ores and Concentrates Technical Committee will close Wednesday June 15.

If you are interested in nominating or wish to discuss the opportunity further, please reach out to Liz Crompton.

WA Shipping and Supply Chains taskforce – Final submission lodged

Last month, CME lodged our submission to the WA Shipping and Supply Chain Taskforce which covered a high-level overview of issues and priorities for members regarding subjects identified in the taskforce scope.

Most notably, CME’s submission contained commentary on:

  • Coastal shipping and the diversification of domestic freight modes
  • Building a competitive and resilient Australian shipping industry
  • Supporting intermodal transportation and supply chain co-ordination
  • Supporting service quality at ports
  • Investing in local training and career pathways

CME will continue to monitor and participate in the taskforce as it proceeds, will advise members accordingly, and sincerely thanks those who contributed feedback during the submission drafting.

Economic Contribution and Productivity Survey – template for review

CME’s annual Economic Contribution factsheets are a key component of our advocacy, offering an accessible and digestible summary of the critical contributions our sector makes to national, State and local economies. The factsheets and headlines figures (available here) are promoted on social media and attract mainstream media coverage, and in FY 2020-21 showcased the $100.46 billion contribution the WA resources sector made to national economy!

CME is currently preparing to launch the next iteration of the Economic Contribution survey, which will inform the factsheet development and we are seeking expressions of interest from members to review the survey template.

Furthermore, this year CME is also launching a short and simple Productivity survey, which seeks to quantify member sentiment around productivity barriers or constraints facing industry and which will incur the greatest opportunity cost in the absence of reform (e.g., regulatory bottlenecks). The results will help support targeted advocacy.

CME is currently seeking volunteers to review the Productivity survey template which is expected to be launched in late-July/August.

If you would like to volunteer to review either template please reach out to Liz Crompton by Friday June 17
