CME hosts tour for DFAT in the Pilbara

CME was pleased to host two representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) on a recent tour of Karratha/Dampier resources facilities.  The tour provided Dylan Walsh, Deputy Director and Michael Janz, Business Engagement Officer, a really good insight into the size and scale of the resources industry – current and future.

DFAT is responsible for Australia’s trade policy. Current DFAT priorities include negotiation of Free Trade Agreements with the EU and UK, implementation of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, and seeking to address market access barriers. One of DFAT’s key roles in the WA State Office is to run programs for its outgoing Ambassadors and Consul Generals to connect them with relevant stakeholders in WA.

If your organisation would like to connect with DFAT, please do not hesitate to contact Dylan Walsh from the WA State Office at dylan.walsh@dfat.gov.au

Hosting tours of regional resources operations and facilities is part of CME’s advocacy strategy to raise awareness and appreciation of the critical role our industry plays for WA and the nation.  Regional tours also create awareness of the importance of the benefits coming from State and Federal investment in regional WA.  CME will continue to facilitate a number of regional tours for key state and federal stakeholders over the remainder of 2021, and we look forward to partnering with members in the regions to showcase our sector and regional WA.
