Change of scenery for our Pilbara rep

CME North West Regional Officer Megan Brouwer spent time in the Perth office during April, which provided an opportunity to meet Perth-based representatives from the Pilbara Regional Council and Kimberley Regional Council.

While in Perth, Megan also spent time with CME’s South West Regional Officer Jason Mennell and undertook a site visit of Premier Coal’s mine in Collie. It was very interesting to visit the coal mine and gain some perspective in terms of power generation and to hear about how the mine supports the local community. Collie represents a change of scenery from the Pilbara, that’s for sure!

A highlight during April was visiting the Tracks We Share, Contemporary Art of the Pilbara exhibition at the Western Australia Art Gallery. FORM Senior Curator, Andrew Nicholls (pictured above) took representatives from CME through the exhibition, explaining the history and context of this unique and mesmerising body of work.

The show is a collaboration between FORM, The Art Gallery of Western Australia, Aboriginal Art Centres Cheeditha Art Group, Juluwarlu Art Group, Martumilli Artists, Spinifex Hill Studio, and Yinjaa-Barni Art and independent artists Katie Ward, Curtis Taylor and Jull Churnside. The exhibition brings together more than 70 artists and over 190 artworks from across the Pilbara.

CME thanks Andrew and FORM for showing us through all the pieces displayed as well as the Pilbara Development Commission for their assistance in arranging the tour. The exhibition is on display until 28 August 2022.
