The 116th Annual General Meeting and Annual Business Lunch
More than 250 representatives from Western Australia’s resources and business community attended the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia (CME) Business Lunch on Thursday, 27 April 2017.
The new Premier, the Hon. Mark McGowan MLA, addressed the crowd and said he was amazed by the scale of the WA resources industry. He believed the proposed mining tax was unwise and was a sovereign risk to the State and also spoke about his support for personal choice in FIFO versus living in regional communities.
Editor-at-large of The Australian newspaper, Paul Kelly, then captivated the audience with his frank assessment of Australian politics, which included his prediction of the upcoming Federal Budget, as well as his views on the Prime Minister’s plan to impose export restrictions on gas.
Earlier in the day, Jeroen Buren, Senior Vice President Production at Woodside Energy, was elected as CME’s President at the Annual General Meeting.
