Skilled Migration Advice for Employers
SKILLED MIGRATION ADVICE FOR EMPLOYERS
CME member companies have access to an out-posted DIAC INDUSTRY OUTREACH OFFICER (IOO) based at CME for skilled migration advice about visa options for bringing skilled overseas workers into Australia on either a temporary or permanent basis.
The DIAC IOO is a senior Commonwealth Department of Immigration and Citizenship official, expert in the migration system with contacts in the Department’s processing and policy areas.
Advice and possible intervention from a DIAC IOO will ensure a resources industry employer is fully informed of necessary processes and documentation for sponsorship, nomination or visa applications. Below are some examples of recent successes:
Example 1 – a consultancy company for the resources industry urgently needed to bring in an expert consultant to carry out a high level quality and safety review. There was no one from WA available to fulfil this role. On behalf of the company, the DIAC IOO provided information and liaised with the Processing Officer in the Perth DIAC Office. As a result the company was correctly advised, and applications were approved with the visa issued on time.
Example 2 – a mining company was interested in interviewing an overseas applicant for a high level job. The company intended to bring the interviewee to Australia via a business visitor visa for interview. However, as a result of insufficient information submitted by the applicant, the visa was refused by the DIAC overseas post. The CME DIAC IOO clarified reasons for the decision with the DIAC overseas post. The result was that the mining company and the applicant were advised on the correct information required and the visa was then successfully issued.
