NATIVE TITLE AND ABORIGINAL HERITAGE
The Western Australian resources industry is a leader in establishing productive relationships with Aboriginal communities to achieve beneficial outcomes for the State and Aboriginal people. It is well recognised the industry can provide significant social and economic benefits to Aboriginal people through native title and land access agreements.
Gaining access to land for exploration and mining and navigating the complex approval processes is becoming increasingly more challenging. Access to country to undertake these activities are based on commercial arrangements bound by agreements which aim to recognise Aboriginal people as the original custodians of the land, and to enhance their social and economic capacity.
CME is developing a number of advocacy documents to assist industry in framing its position on native title and Aboriginal heritage. These documents include:
