Immerse: Exploring the Deep - Maritime Museum Exhibition
Event Dates: 3/9/2011 - 2/3/2012
Immerse: Exploring the Deep will plunge you into an interactive ‘underwater world’ to explore the depths of the vast ocean.
This is the first interactive exhibition in Australia to showcase the amazing technology that enables humans to survive and work underwater, opening up people’s imaginations to challenge what is possible and encouraging our next generation to consider interesting and diverse career paths.
Since the days of ‘hard-hat’ diving Western Australians has been at the forefront of subsea technological innovation. Discover how it is now used to go to places and do things once thought impossible.
The centrepiece of the display is a working observation class Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV) in a purpose-built tank and an ROV simulator.
The key themes for the exhibit are:
• Diving technology
• Underwater robots
• Acoustic technology for discovering the seafloor
• Below the Seabed: The story of oil and gas exploration and utilisation
• Sustainability and the future
• Careers in underwater technology
Immerse hopes encourage secondary and tertiary students to see the opportunities available in a career in underwater technology and engineering. It will also appeal to people interested or attached to the industry, and features a number of WA innovators in this field.
This exhibition would not be possible without the support of the WA Museum’s principal partner Woodside and exhibition partner Society for Underwater Technology.
