Mineral Processing Operator

Mineral processing operators operate equipment which processes mineral ores until a final form is produced. Such processes include: crushing, screening, grinding, milling, filtering, flotation, and conveyors. Mineral process operators may perform the following tasks:

  • assist in the assembling and dismantling of equipment and fittings eg pumps, conveyors, screens etc;
  • load and unload materials;
  • mix ore treating chemicals and catalysts;
  • clean wash and maintain plant;
  • clear blockages, remove spillages;
  • perform manual tasks to maintain auxiliary systems;
  • take samples for testing.

NT
There are no specific educational requirements. However, NTCE is the preferred minimum. The skills required are gained by experience in other positions or through training programs conducted by mining companies.

WA
The following training course is available for mineral processing operators. To enter the course you need to have completed a mineral industry skills course or equivalent: TAFE External Studies - Thornlie Campus

QLD
The skills required are usually gained by experience in other positions or through training programs conducted by individual mining companies. Training is given mainly on the job. Year 12 minimum is preferred.

SA
Entry to the occupation does not require any particular level of education. The skills required are usually gained by experience in other positions or through on-the-job training programs conducted by mining companies.
