Geophysicist

Geophysicists study the physical properties of the Earth, including magnetism, gravity, seismicity and electrical phenomena. Geophysicists in the minerals industry may perform the following tasks:

  • supervise collection and processing of seismic data for petroleum exploration;
  • plan, conduct and interpret geophysical surveys in exploring for mineral commodities;
  • design, develop and operate computer systems and software for processing and interpreting geophysical data;
  • research new methods and instrumentation.
