The ETSA Corporation trains its own power generation plant operators. Suitable trainees are selected from current employees, usually from the trades areas. Trainees undergo a 9 month Power Station Basic Principles course. The course is a mix of on-the-job training and remote studies. On completion, trainees are assessed in order to receive a National Worksafe Australia Certificate of Competency for Users and Operators of Industrial Equipment. Trainees with a satisfactory assessment apply to the Department for Industrial Affairs for the Certificate.

Participants undergo a Power Station Basic Principles course, which is a mix of practical on-the-job training and learning through correspondence. On completion of the course, trainees are tested by Worksafe Western Australia. On passing the test, they receive a certificate of competency and become qualified operators.
The following course is also available. It requires completion of Year 10. The course is usually only available to Western Power employees.
