Environmental Engineer

Environmental engineers are concerned with assessing and managing the effects of human activity on the natural and built environments. They apply their engineering knowledge to environmental impact assessment, natural resource management, pollution control and minimisation of impact of waste. Environmental engineers in the minerals industry may perform the following tasks:

  • research and develop new technologies and techniques to improve environmental acceptability of engineering projects;
  • evaluate environmental and social impact of engineering projects;
  • design and operate processes to treat wastes to an acceptable standard;
  • work with other engineers to minimise generation of wastes;
  • prepare reports and studies on environmental management
