There are no specified educational requirements for entry. Training is mainly done on the job or at a registered Skills Centre.

TAS
Entry to this job is through on-the-job training and is given under the supervision of an experienced operator, usually to people already employed in the building, logging, mining or construction industries.
Some companies provide a training program on and off the job, have their own testing program and issue their own certificates of competency. Some of the machinery distributors occasionally conduct courses.
A machinery endorsement is required from Department of Transport. The endorsement is added to the drivers licence upon receipt of written advice from an operator indicating competency. There are no formal educational requirements.
