Backhoe Operator

Backhoe operators drive backhoes and operate attachments to excavate, break and level earth, rock and other materials. Backhoe operators in the minerals industry may perform the following tasks:

  • examine plans or obtain instructions from supervisors and select or change attachments to the plant to suit the job at hand;
  • operate the plant and all attachments;
  • excavate trenches or holes to correct level and alignment;
  • break up rock using pneumatic breakers;
  • back-fill trenches with material;
  • service equipment.
