Storeperson

Storepersons receive, handle and dispatch equipment and goods coming onto the site. Storepersons in the minerals industry could perform the following tasks:

• unload goods and check them against order forms;
• catalogue or label items;
• place goods in bins or on racks;
• complete orders;
• package and send out completed orders;
• operate fork-lift trucks;
• operate computerised stock control programs;
• keep store tidy.

However, a reasonable ability in English and maths is needed to read invoices, check stock and prices. For more specialised stores duties (eg in hospitals handling medical supplies), a higher standard of education may be needed.

Additional Information
Storepersons are often required to operate a forklift. A licence from the Occupational Health and Safety Authority is required in order to operate a forklift. You need to be 18 years of age to obtain a forklift licence.
