2012 WOMEN IN RESOURCES AWARDS

The Women in Resources Awards recognise individuals and organisations working to build a world-class industry which provides attractive career opportunities and enhances the recognition and participation of women in the sector.

The awards encompass all aspects of the resources sector. Interested individuals and organisations are encouraged to apply online before the closing date of Monday 7 November 2011. Winners of the 2012 Women in Resources Awards will be announced at a breakfast presentation ceremony on 8 March 2012, International Women’s Day.

This year there are five categories in the Women in Resources Awards. The following information details each category, the entry requirements and the information that will be required for the application.

All nominations for the 2012 Women in Resources Awards are to be lodged electronically.

Please note the word limits for each question (noted below) as these word limits are enforced throughout the nomination form.

 

WOMEN IN RESOURCES CHAMPION

This category recognises an individual, male or female, who has encouraged, promoted and advocated for the attraction, selection, promotion or retention of women within the resources sector.

This Award will also:

Provide a platform to showcase 'champion' role models in the industry
Increase community awareness of the valuable contribution women make to the industry
Raise the profile of career opportunities for women in the resources industry

Who can enter?

CME is seeking applications from men and women who;

  • Work in the WA resources sector
  • Reside in WA
  • Have made a contribution to the attraction and retention of women in resources
  • Have a vision for the advancement of women in resources
  • Demonstrate a contribution to society

The application form will include the following questions:

About the person – Brief description/summary (max 300 words for media/promotional purposes) 

1. Demonstrates skills of advocacy for women in resources (max. 400 words)
Describe how you have encouraged, promoted and advocated for women in resources. Describe any outcomes that demonstrate the impact of your advocacy to the attraction and retention of women in your company and/or industry.

2. Demonstrates a contribution to society (max. 200 words)
Describe how you have made a difference to society through the resources sector such as the contribution to social/community development.

3. Demonstrates an understanding of the benefits of a diverse workforce (max. 200 words)
Describe what you believe are the benefits of a diverse workforce

4. Demonstrates a vision for the advancement of women in resources (max. 200 words)
Describe your vision for the Western Australian minerals industry.

**Entries must include;
• One high resolution photo
• CV, including at least one referee
 

OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL WOMAN

This category recognises an outstanding woman's contribution to the WA resources sector, her company and/or communityand has significantly brought about positive change in the WA resources sector

This Award will also

Provide a platform to showcase female role models in the industry
Increase community awareness of the valuable contribution women make to the industry
Raise the profile of career opportunities for women in the resources industry

Who can enter?

CME is seeking applications from women who;

  • Work in the WA resources sector
  • Reside in WA
  • Work in a professional or specialist role
  • Have demonstrated their capacity to be an effective ambassador for the resources sector.
  • Have a passion for working in the resources sector
  • Demonstrate a work/life balance

The application form will include the following questions:

About the person – Brief description/summary (max 300 words for media/promotional purposes)

1. Has significantly brought about positive change in the WA resources sector (max. 400 words)
Describe the way in which you have been involved with and contributed to positive change in your company and/or industry. Describe any outcomes that demonstrate the impact of your contribution to positive change in your company and/or industry

2. Demonstrates a passion for working in the resources sector (max. 200 words)
Describe why you enjoy working in the resources sector?

3. Capacity to be an effective ambassador for the resources sector (max. 200 words)
Describe how you are an effective ambassador for women in resources?
Tell us of any messages you might have that could encourage others who are interested in entering the resources sector.

4. Demonstrates work-life balance (max 200 words)
Describe how you maintain a work/life balance.

**Entries must include;
• One high resolution photo
• CV, including at least one referee
 

OUTSTANDING YOUNG PROFESSIONAL WOMAN

if aged 34 years or under as at 31 December 2011
This category recognises an outstanding young woman's contribution to the WA resources sector and/or community and has shown significant promise or reached new goals in their career to date in the resources sector.

This Award will also

Provide a platform to showcase young female role models in the industry
Increase community awareness of the valuable contribution women make to the industry
Raise the profile of career opportunities for women in the resources industry

Who can enter?

CME is seeking applications from women who;

  • Work in the WA resources sector
  • Reside in WA
  • Work in a professional or specialist role
  • Are aged 34 years or under as at 31 December 2011
  • Have demonstrated their capacity to be an effective ambassador for the resources sector.
  • Have a passion for working in the resources sector
  • Demonstrate a work/life balance

The application form will include the following questions:

About the person – Brief description/summary (max 300 words for media/promotional purposes)

1. Demonstrates significant promise or reached new goals in their career (max. 400 words)
Describe your career path highlighting any significant achievements. Describe any outcomes that demonstrate the impact of your achievements and contribution to your company and/or industry

2. Demonstrates a passion for working in the resources sector (max. 200 words)
Describe why you enjoy working in the resources sector?

3. Capacity to be an effective ambassador for the resources sector (max 200 words)
Tell us of any messages you might have that could encourage others who are interested in entering the resources sector. How could you be an effective ambassador for women in resources?

4. Demonstrates work-life balance (max 200 words)
Describe how you maintain a work/life balance.

OUTSTANDING OPERATOR/TECHNICIAN/TRADE WOMAN

This category recognises an outstanding woman's contribution to the WA resources sector, her company and/or community and has broken new ground for women in the resources sector.

This Award will also

Provide a platform to showcase female role models in the industry
Increase community awareness of the valuable contribution women make to the industry
Raise the profile of career opportunities for women in the resources industry

Who can enter?

CME is seeking applications from women who;

  • Work in the WA resources sector
  • Reside in WA
  • Work in a trade, operator or technician role
  • Have demonstrated their capacity to be an effective ambassador for women working in the resources sector
  • Have a passion for working in the resources sector
  • Demonstrate a work/life balance

The application form will include the following questions:

About the person – Brief description/summary (max 300 words for media/promotional purposes)

1. Broken new ground for women in the resources sector (max. 400 words)
Describe the way in which your career achievements have broken new ground for women in the resources sector

2. Demonstrates a passion for working in the resources sector (max 200 words)
Describe why you enjoy working in the resources sector?

3. Capacity to be an effective ambassador for the resources sector (max. 200 words)
Tell us of any messages you might have that could encourage others who are interested in entering the resources sector. How could you be an effective ambassador for women in resources?

4. Demonstrates work-life balance (max. 200 words)
Describe how you maintain a work/life balance.

**Entries must include;
• One high resolution photo
• CV, including at least one referee

OUTSTANDING COMPANY INITIATIVE

This category recognises a company that has implemented an initiative, policy or practice which demonstrates successful attraction, selection, promotion or retention of women within the resources sector.

This Award will also

Provide a platform to showcase outstanding company initiatives in the industry
Increase community awareness of the valuable contribution companies make to the community
Increase community awareness of the valuable contribution women make to the industry
Raise the profile of career opportunities for women in the resources industry

Who is eligible to enter?

CME is seeking applications from companies who have developed initiatives that;

  • Enhance the attraction and retention of women in the WA resources sector
  • May include, but not limited to;
  • Innovative shift rosters
  • Equal opportunity initiatives
  • Childcare arrangements and work/life balance initiatives
  • Training, networking, career development or mentoring programs
  • Maternity leave and return to work strategies
  • Employment and promotion practices
  • Provision of a comfortable, safe and supportive workplace culture
  • Demonstrate a contribution to society

The application form will include the following questions:

About the company initiative – Brief description/summary (max 300 words for media/promotional purposes)
The company initiative must demonstrate strategies that enhance the attraction and retention of women in the WA resources sector. These strategies can include, but are not limited to;
o Innovative shift rosters
o Equal opportunity initiatives
o Childcare arrangements and work/life balance initiatives
o Training, networking, career development or mentoring programs
o Maternity leave and return to work strategies
o Employment and promotion practices
o Provision of a comfortable, safe and supportive workplace culture

1. Identification of opportunity
Describe the problem/opportunity that this initiative was designed to address.

2. Development of the initiative
Describe the process undertaken to develop and implement this initiative. Include any KPI’s created.

3. Measurable outcomes
Describe any measurable outcomes that demonstrate the success of this initiative.

4. Transferability across the industry
Describe the potential for the initiative to be used, modified or transferred to other settings or industries.

5. Demonstrates a contribution to society
Describe how this initiative has made a difference to society through the resources sector such as the contribution to social/community development.
